Last November 16 I decided to try something different: I grabbed my laptop and instead of coming to our studio I went to a friends’ architecture studio to work from there. It was a great day of work: I got things done, had wonderful conversations, met new people and even had homemade italian food for lunch.
The idea of going out and work from another office had been maturing in my head for a while, mostly because of some observations I did about how I work:
- It is good to get out of my comfort zone and deal with the unexpected;
- I learn a lot by working next to people that do other sutff and see the world through a different perspective;
- I’m very curious about the way people organize and occupy their workspace;
- I like to show my work to others and get their feedback.
The problem with ripe ideas is that they take too much space in our head. Finally getting out to spend the day at ateliermob was such a great experience that I made an important decision: from then on all my wednesdays would be like that.
Thus the Nomad Wednesdays were born!
The following wednesday I went to CoreFactor, a web development studio. And then to Cowork Lisboa to hang with WidgiLabs, a WordPress development company. Three Nomad Wednesdays later the pattern is confirmed: I get work done, have great conversations, learn a lot and meet new people.
Meanwhile @ananeves got interested by the story and wrote an article about it. Then @AnaDataGirl asked me a few questions by email and wrote on her blog about Nomad Wednesdays and Serendipty. And now we even have more people doing the same!
The next Nomad Wednesday is tomorrow at The Lisbon Studio.
If you have a nomad relationship with your work or a desk to share I would love to hear from you on Twitter: @guictx, #nomadwednesdays or #quartasnomadas.
